Beijing shiitake mushrooms


( Serves 4)

  • Shiitake mushroom 240 grams/ml
  • Onion 50 grams/ml
  • Garlic 20 grams/ml
  • Hoisin 25 grams/ml
  • Soy sauce 20 grams/ml
  • Chinese 5 spice 15 grams/ml
  • Pepper, black and white 5 grams/ml



  1. put on a nonstick frying pan on to heat and thinly slice the onion, garlic and shiitakes
  2. add the shiitakes to the pan and dry fry until they have shrunk and lost some of their water. 

    add the onion and garlic, stirring constantly 
  3. add the spices, hoisin and soy sauce to the pan and stir
  4. cook until soft and serve drizzled with garlic oil and more sliced garlic 

Extra Notes

Great as a side dish to bao buns, Chinese dumplings or a big veggie stirfry and rice
